First orthodontic visit

When is the most appropriate time for my child’s first orthodontic appointment?

The American Association of Orthodontists and the World Federation of Orthodontists recommend that children first visit an orthodontist at the age of 7.

Most patients in active orthodontic treatment are older, but some specific dental and especially skeletal orthodontic anomalies are best treated at an early age.

Timely First Visit

A timely first visit provides your orthodontist the chance to:
  • -guide the growth and development of the jaws
  • -reduce the probability of trauma on protruding upper teeth
  • -correct detrimental habits (eg thumb-sucking)
  • -improve facial aesthetics and your child’s self-confidence
  • -favorably guide the eruption of the permanent teeth
  • -improve articulation and solve speech problems
  • -aid normal nose breathing through maxillary expansion

Prevention is the best treatment option!
